This weeks projects were all about where to hang your coat on these cold winter days.
The first project was a coat rack that was nice enough, but kinda square.
So I got out the saw and gave it some curves on the sides. Then added some decorative molding to the top edge and topped it off with this chunky, decorative wood piece from my stash of salvaged goodies.
After painting it white and a blueish grey color I added stripes on the bottom and stenciled the back with a star pattern. Last I switched out the boring hooks for these large round drawer pulls.
This hall seat was the next project and it actually has a very sad story. It started out as the middle drawer from a tired old dresser and became this cute little bench. But sadly, no one wanted it…color was too dark I guess.
So I brightened it up with white paint and applied a fun stencil. The back is a combination of an old coat rack bought from a yard sale, cedar lining boards from a thrift store and two 1 x 4’s. I had to trim the rounded sides off the coat rack so the 1 x 4’s would butt up to it. Then I rounded off the tops of the 1 x 4’s to fit under the shelf of the coat rack and backed it with the cedar boards.
After a coat of white paint I added more stencils then topped it all off with dark wax to give it that shabby chic look.
So there is the story of how this hall seat came to be. Now if someone would just take it home with them this story would have a happy ending and this piece would be such a “happy” hall seat.
