This large antique buffet was obviously a beauty at one time but had suffered a lot of damage over the years. It still had a lot of great reusable parts though and the main frame was in very good condition so it was definitely worth repurposing. After I got rid of all the water damaged veneer, I removed the top and middle sections. The legs had to be cut down because they were also badly damaged. Then I attached the two drawer sections together and cut down the top to fit.
Now, I wanted to add some height so I took the large middle drawer and cut it in half and used it for the side pieces.
After putting on a back, I added shelves on the inside. The top was made from an old salvaged pine cabinet door and to dress it up I added trim molding and these appliques that were cut from a wood snowflake X-mas tree ornament.
This piece still has all its charm and character, it’s just a lot prettier, and I think it would make a great bar cabinet.
